In memory of all ABOUTthose that lost lost their lives in the Senghenydd pit disaster In memory of ABOUT all those that lost their lives in the Senghenydd pit disaster

About On Tuesday the 14th of October 1913, the small mining village of Senghenydd, South Wales, was subject to the worst pit disaster in British history. A total of 439 men and boys lost their lives in a series of underground explosions and pit fires. It was an event that would change the British mining industry forever. In an early example of photo journalism, the events of that day were documented and published as a series of 25 postcards by photographer W. Benton. The Price Of Coal is a retelling of this tragedy brought to life through both Benton's photography.
